CEO and Founder Benjamin Thelonious Fels leads teams that innovate. He has worked with physicians, administrators and physician-scientists to deploy macro-eyes technology at leading academic medical centers in New York City and in California.
He began his career at a quantitative fund as a derivatives trader. He became the youngest senior trader in the history of WH Trading and managed profitable quantitative, technology and market teams in Chicago and London.
Benjamin built machine learning systems that power successful algorithmic trading systems and, with macro-eyes co-founder Suvrit Sra, developed novel pattern-identifying software to assess geologic assets for the world’s largest energy services firm. He has spoken on applied machine learning at the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington, to the Kidney Research Institute, at Penn Medicine and to primary care physicians in Alaska and Oregon.
Benjamin graduated Wesleyan University in the history of art.
Chief AI Officer and co-founder Suvrit Sra, PhD is an expert on large-scale machine learning and optimization. He is an Assistant Professor at MIT in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a core faculty member in the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society.
Suvrit is the author of more than 65 peer-reviewed publications in machine learning, data mining, statistics, optimization, and mathematics, has been issued several patents and is the editor of Optimization for Machine Learning (MIT Press).
In 2017, Suvrit was the recipient of an NSF BIGDATA grant to create a novel suite of models and algorithms for analyzing complex datasets, with a particular focus on three factors crucial for next-generation machine learning: interpretability, interactivity and automated learning.
Suvrit received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and has served as visiting faculty at UC Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon.
Chief Design Officer and co-founder Sebastian Kaupert has 25 years of leadership where business meets design. From the American Express intranet to the digital presence of the International Monetary Fund, he has helped shape global organizations' brand experiences across media.
Sebastian has career-long commitment to thinking through how the healthcare industry can make the best use of data. He has worked with Novartis, Boehringer Ingelheim, Johnson & Johnson and GSK, and built the user-interface design and branding strategy for one of the first wearable device companies.
He is an Associate Professor in the Communication Design Department at Pratt Institute where he has been teaching for the past 20 years.
Chief Business Officer Drew Arenth, MBA has extensive experience in modernizing supply chains. Previously, Drew was a research consultant for Intellectual Ventures/Global Good, and a Principal at Providence Health and Services, leading design and execution of strategic organizational initiatives.

Johannes Kitschke is the Chief Software Engineer at macro eyes. He has a background in high-performance computing.
Johannes holds a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture from Hamburg University of Technology, Germany and a Master of Science in Computational Engineering Science from RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany.
Johannes’ Master’s thesis involved the design and implementation of a scalable data stream mining framework that allowed for shape-based querying/monitoring of a large number of ECG data streams in parallel. His thesis was supervised by Chief AI Officer Suvrit Sra, PhD.
Chief Medical Officer Frederic Bahnson, MD, FACS is a general surgeon in Oregon where he specializes in the surgical care of traumatically injured patients. He currently serves as Chief of Surgery, Samaritan Albany General Hospital.
Dr. Bahnson graduated Reed College in Physics and was employed as a systems and R&D engineer before receiving his medical training at Oregon Health and Science University.
He is medical adviser for data analytics to Samaritan Health Services, a regional health provider, where he serves on the Data Governance Council.
Ramkumar Hariharan, PhD is Senior Data Scientist at macro-eyes. He has successfully led diverse, high-impact machine and deep learning projects at a series of world-renowned medical research institutions: RIKEN center for Integrative Medical Sciences in Japan; the Institute for Systems Bi-ology in Seattle (where he worked with legendary geneticist Lee Hood); The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
His areas of focus include advanced statistical data analyses, data visualization, and predictive analysis of both structured and unstructured data. He has also worked on data-driven genomic investigations at the University of Oxford, UK, and at RIKEN, Japan where he was visiting scientist. Ram originally started out as computational biology faculty in a federal institute in India, and has a PhD in the subject.
Ram has more than 500 citations across 20 of his peer-reviewed scientific publications, serves as invited reviewer for several prestigious journals, was one of only two British Council Researcher Exchange Program award winners in 2007 from India, was an invited external grant proposals reviewer for Hong Kong research foundation and for the Government of Poland, and has contributed to successful research proposals in the US.
Ram serves as affiliate faculty at Northeastern University, bootcamp leader at General Assembly, and a course mentor with Springboard.
Ram is a storyteller at heart; when he’s not storytelling with data, he is writing children’s stories or frivolous articles. He believes in combining education with entertainment, and will never give up an opportunity to talk to large audiences with some stand-up comedy thrown in!
